The trails around Sherando Lake in Lyndhurst, VA, have been a long time favorite of regional mountain bikers. Like everything in and around the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, the trails around Sherando Lake are demanding but highly rewarding. The views from atop the high Blue Ridge ridges, along with the quality of the trails are just a few of the reasons why mountain bikers, along with other trail users, keep coming back to the area.
The trail documented in Mountain Bike Virginia is a variation of the classic Sherando Loop. It’s a little shorter, but just as demanding. The ride can easily be extended (nearly doubled) to include portions of the classic route.
Between April 1st and October 31st there is a nominal fee to use the area. Cyclists, if riding in, pay only $1 to enter the area. If you opt to drive in, it will cost you a little more, $3.00 per vehicle, plus $1 per passenger. Camping and a beach along the lower lake are only a few of the additional amenities offered around the lake. Stay for a couple of days to enjoy more of the trails around this popular destination.
